The Adam Godwin Soccer Academy is launching two travel tournament teams for the 2021 fall season – a U19 boys team and a U19 girls team. The purpose of these team are to compete in 5-6 high level tournaments while providing weekly quality coaching and training opportunities.
WHEN ARE TRYOUTS?
Tryouts will be held at Randolph College (1 Quinlan Street, Lynchburg, VA 24503) on the following dates:
April 25 & May 2
Girls times - 12:30pm - 2:00pm
Boys times - 2:00pm - 3:30pm
To be considered for either team you must attend at least one tryout. You may register for the tryout by completing the Google Form at the link below. Both teams are open to rising high school sophomores through rising high school seniors, please click here to register.
WHAT WILL THE COST BE?
The cost for our 2020 team was $700 per person and that included everything related to tournament entry fees, training sessions, rental fees, US Club Soccer registrations, etc. We were also able to secure a sponsor who covered the cost of uniforms, travel gear, and practice gear and will hope to secure one again this year, however if we are unsuccessful there will be additional costs for those items. Please note the $700 did not include travel expenses.
WHEN/WHERE WILL WE PRACTICE?
We will practice at VES in the Boonsboro area. The team will train twice per week, with an additional third optional training opportunity at the weekly Academy SPARQ training sessions. Practice dates are still to be confirmed.
WHO WILL BE THE COACH?
Darien McClurg will be the head coach of the girls team and will run all training sessions and plan to take the team to all tournaments. Our boys head coach will be Mark Bowman who is currently the assistant men's soccer coach at Randolph College. We will have an assistant coach in place for both teams to assist in coaching and also be available to take the team to tournaments should the head coach have a conflict. Adam Godwin will run all optional SPARQ sessions, although he will not be at any of the tournaments or weekly team training sessions due to his commitments as the head coach of Randolph College.
WHICH TOURNAMENTS WILL WE ENTER?
Our intention is to enter quality tournaments run by SMC Tournaments which will challenge the players and also give them exposure to college coaches. Our 2019 and 2020 teams participated in The Virginia Cup, Williamsburg Columbus Day Invitational, The Nation’s Capital Cup, Bethesda Premier Cup, Trident Cup, and the CASL/NCFC College Showcase. It would be our intention to enter the same events which provided a high level of competition and exposure to college coaches for recruiting purposes.
WHEN WILL THE SEASON RUN?
The intention is for this team to run through the Fall of 2021. We will run a team mini pre-season camp in early August before beginning weekly training sessions. A full calendar will be provided to each family by the middle of July.
